The past two decades has seen many things but one thing remains the same: Toddlers are still Toddlers. They may wear different clothes, have pull up nappies, three wheeler jogging prams, and a complete collection of Tweenies DVDs but essentially toddlers haven’t changed. Time has not dimmed their enthusiasm for chaos; it hasn’t dented their unthinking and often unreasonable behaviour, nor muffled their noisy demands for attention. Toddlers are just as full of life and magic as they have always been. Essentially toddlers need attention, time, love and affection. Toddlers, need more attention than most parents realise. Left without an audience for even a short period of time, the toddler becomes interrupting, noisy and demanding. Lack of quality attention, is the root of many behavioural problems and parental headaches. Closely linked to attention is time. Toddlers, have a completely different sense of time from adults and they aren’t interested in clock watching or time management. They live very much in the present and want everything ‘now’. Toddlers need love and attention and so affection needs to be demonstrated as often as possible.
Time, for children, as given in the passage, is;A | Is easily ignored by children for they don’t really understand the concept of the passage of
time and therefore rely on their adults to help them understand when to eat and sleep. |
B | Something, they are very aware of and always careful about, especially when they go to
sleep so that they sleep more and therefore are more rested than adults.
|
C | Not of much importance to children as they don’t really have a concept of managing it and
they tend to only know that what they need, has to be done in the given present time. |
D | Is to children, what their parents teach it to be, as they only learn what is taught to them
by their elder family members. |
E | Is not really a concept at all to children as they are not required by the adults to utilise the
time to earn their bread and butter, but instead to just enjoy their childhood |

The primary point that the author wishes to convey is that:A | The only thing that young children truly value is the love that is given to them by their
elders, in the form of gifts, chocolates and toys
|
B | Giving in to the tantrums thrown by toddlers is a sure shot way of letting them know that
they are truly loved and getting them to learn not to throw tantrums anymore |
C | While toddlers tend to get into a lot of mischief, they mostly do it to gain the attention and
love that they crave from their elders. |
D | Young children, while quite naughty can be taught to do the right things and follow
instructions as long as they are given the right guidance by their elders from time to time. |
E | Toddlers are rambunctious and need strict discipline in order for them to learn the
importance of life and how to lead it well, thereby becoming successful people. |

The passage clearly tells the reader that in the past:A | Children while naughty beyond measure, just like children today, were easily placated with
the promise of a cuddle at some later stage.
|
B | Toddlers were just as full of life as they are today, as their main reasons for making noise,
demanding attention and getting into mischief have not changed at all. |
C | Toddlers were far more malleable into more socially acceptable behaviour than most kids
these days because they had fewer wants and desires back then. |
D | Parents were more forgiving of the mistakes and impishness displayed by their offspring, in
order to get them to quite down and not repeat it again. |
E | Young children were far more manageable, compared to what they are in the present day
and age because they did not have different clothes, nappies or prams. |

The writer makes his stance very clear, that:A | Children are not necessarily mischievous but they do all that they do, in order to gain some
much needed attention as they wish to feel like they are important to their elders. |
B | Children being innocent at heart, only desire attention, time, love and affection and are
therefore perforce made to resort to good behaviour to gain the praise that they want. |
C | Toddlers are not bad by nature, but they are more likely to stray down a disastrous path if
their family does not give them the time, attention, and love that they crave on a primal
level. |
D | Trouble making is the very last resort that a child takes in order to gain the love of his
parents and relatives, who are otherwise too busy to even notice that he might be hungry |
E | Most children get into scraps to get their parents attention, which they can then utilise to
get them to give them a gift that they desire. |
